A WALK IN GOLDEN ACRE PARK IN LEEDS

TIGER'S EYE

There is something beautiful about tiger's eye. As you move it around catching the light the colors shimmer and blend taking you into it so deeply.

Tiger's eye is a member of the quartz family. The crystal structure is hexagonal (trigonal). Works well on the root chakra and the solar plexus. This stone gives you mental clarity allowing everything to find its place. Practical solutions to problems come easy allowing you to find yourself applying actions easily, allowing you to move forward with a sense of new of purpose. Fatigue drifts from you as you are filled with inner strength to solve anything that comes your way. Tiger's eye is very grounding and gives you a real sense of balance.

It was the first of January 2008, the beginning of a brand new year. After my trip to Kenya I was still ungrounded and needing to come back into this world again. Christmas was lovely but already slipping away. Due to me having to work, every day just seemed a normal day now. My first sign of a more positive me coming back was going straight into work and booking twelve days off for next Christmas so for once I could just relax, sit back, enjoy. Now all of a sudden there was a light already shining as even when this year had passed, I would have something very special at the end of it. Time for me.

The other thing that was great about this year is I was starting it with someone special. A new love had come into my life a month before Kenya and my meditation of sound and light. Sarah had seen me at one of my highest moments in life. The first was meeting her, my second was the three day meditation, then, of course, my trip to Kenya. On coming back from Kenya I had gotten a bit out of sorts, now it was time to start to take control again and to appreciate everything here in Leeds that meant so much to me. Sarah, my family, friends, meditation, crystals and the place that was the home to the foundations of my rebirth.

So there we were in Golden Acre Park on a dreary day walking hand in hand in our own ray of sunshine. I must admit I thought it would be quiet there with everyone else busy eating left over mince pies or asleep in front of the television with another Christmas repeat. Instead we found ourselves joining a slow walk around the park in what seemed a very orderly line for some reason. Normally there are people walking in every direction in their only little bit of space but not today. We both had cameras in our hands to take pictures and capture those moments you want to last forever. Even though it was the first day of a new year buds were already bursting through on branches and plants. Life was starting to begin anew, fresh and with a new purpose. As I looked at each plant I started to feel happy. I saw myself in each of them, just wanting to come alive again and now beginning to seeing how. My eyes were quietly taking everything in and without yet properly knowing I had already planted seeds of my own which were now beginning to bud and would shape this coming year. We walked around talking, smiling, taking pictures and most of all enjoying each others company. We would stop and just watch the ducks swim by losing ourselves in their world for a moment before returning to ours. There is something very magical about birds and animals and their actions. If you're very still and allow yourself to drift slightly you can for a few moments almost become entwined with them and join their space.

It was so nice just being together and starting the beginning of our plans for the coming year together. With each moment I found myself happier and happier as the weight around me started to lift. Like we were in the ducks' space we found the people around us entering ours. At first it was hard to notice, but if we took another path away from the endless line someone would rush to get to it first. This kept happening and was amazing to watch. We would drift from the path and couples would want to know what we had seen different and want it themselves. At one point we saw some squirrels playing; no one had seen them till now, until we made the mistake of taking out our cameras. The line slowed down, people stopped, mums pointed and told their children to look and that was that. Instead of a squirrel in my picture it was the arm of a coat or a woolly hat. The squirrels would run and hide then bob out again. We tried to take a picture again but more shouts, more running, more people in front of us. I managed to snap one picture of a single squirrel instead of lots playing. We turned to escape only to find people all around us, everywhere, you wouldn't believe it unless you were there. I have been to this park many a time and this just does not happen as everyone finds their own little spots. Now it was like everyone had started to become awake at once so we left them busy watching the squirrels to find a place of our own.

We took a path under a crop of trees and there we found our special place for that moment. It was full of a sense of life that just filled us with a joy so wonderful I still think of it now. This was a most beautiful space as we were left alone. No one entered it and for about fifteen minutes of pure bliss we made it our own. We laid our pieces of tiger's eye alongside nature and the two entwined so well it was hard to see the join. We just stood for a moment hand in hand and smiled it was all so beautiful. It looked haunted with the mist hanging between the trees but I have never felt so safe. The first time this year I was really finding the real me, I was coming back. I looked over at Sarah and she had a huge smile across her face she looked truly beautiful all wrapped up from the cold and damp and at one with the space. It was amazing how lovely and how needed it was having space and time for ourselves.

We left our clearing and walked on joining the line again. It was so imposing we had to stop quite often to break ourselves from the chain. Often we would turn and walk back against the crowd to make us feel alive again. As we were near the end of our walk we came to a rock feature with running water. It was a perfect place to cleanse the tiger's eye. As I put it in you could see people looking at what we were doing. Their heads constantly snapping round. We were happy though and so was the tiger's eye getting recharged first with nature and now with running water. Its great taking your crystals out with you into a new environment, it rubs onto you too as you find yourself looking at things differently. We allowed the tiger's eye to sit there happily for ten minutes, I wish I could have left it all night and come back for it in morning. Another moment that something special happened and to put an even bigger smile across our faces.

We walked on to the exit where more sets of plants were budding, giving us another reminder to start this year again. As I took these pictures I had to laugh as a guy got in my way to smell flowers I was taking. He had to have that one not any of the others spread about the park. Us people are a funny bunch aren't we? Tiger's eye is a wonderful tool to meditate with, for support and spiritual growth. Grounding but allows you to break free when required. Great at allowing you to look at life differently and fall in love with it all once again.
